From Woodchester to the World
At St Mary’s we seek to share the love of God with others through our support of mission organizations and our giving, both globally and locally. The Church’s income is tithed to support organizations which reflect the interests of members of the congregation; Church Mission Society, Interserve, Tearfund and Scripture Union. We help support Paul and Sarah Tester, working with CMS in Lima, Peru and a family working with Interserve. They send us regular newsletters and visit the Church when they can to speak about their work. The Church has a strong association with Scripture Union through the use of its publications in Junior Church and also many children enjoy a fantastic time at the Scripture Union summer Lagger camps which are held locally.
On Remembrance Sunday our collection is given to The Poppy Appeal and at the Christingle Service we encourage people to give to The Children’s Society. Before Christmas we assemble gift-filled shoeboxes to send to children in Eastern Europe through Operation Christmas Child. Produce from Harvest Festival is taken to Nelson House in Brimscombe which is successful in rehabilitating people recovering from addictions.
We have been collecting clothes and bedding for Marah, a Stroud based charity helping the homeless. We also support The Door’s work with the young people of Stroud.
